Ink Fingerprinting
The traditional method of collecting an individual’s fingerprints is by using black ink and a fingerprint card. The person’s fingertips are rolled in ink and then carefully pressed onto a standard fingerprint card, capturing the unique ridge patterns of each finger.
When Is Ink Fingerprinting Used?
Ink fingerprinting is still widely accepted and often required for:
- Out-of-state license or background checks.
- Federal forms (FD-258 fingerprint card, SF-87, etc.)
- Immigration and visa applications
- Some jobs or government agencies that do not accept Live Scan
- FBI Background Checks for personal review or travel abroad
- Applications outside California or in states that don’t use Live Scan
What the Process Involves
- The technician applies ink to each finger.
- Fingers are carefully rolled on a fingerprint card in the correct sequence.
- The card is either mailed by the requested agency or submitted by the applicant
Benefits of Ink Fingerprinting
- Accepted nationwide and internationally
- Ideal for forms that require physical submission
- Still a reliable, cost-effective method of identity verification
